Transportation of animals to Latvia

  1. It is permitted to bring into the Republic of Latvia through the State (customs) border posts established for animal import, only clinically healthy dogs and cats from countries or their administrative territories:
    1. which are free from Rabies without any restrictions;
    2. those affected by Rabies:
      • no Rabies cases are registered during the last 60 days within a radius of 10 km;
      • dogs and cats shall be vaccinated against Rabies no later than 12 months and earlier than 30 days before they are brought into Latvia.
  2. Each animal brought into Latvia shall be accompanied with a veterinary certificate which shall contain confirmation that the Republic of Latvia requirements are complied with.
  3. The certificate shall contain results of clinical examination, animal dehelminization, treatment against ectoparasites and data concerning animal immunisation:
    • dogs - against Rabies, Canine distemper, Infectious canine hepatitis and Canine parvoviral infection;
    • cats - against Rabies and Infectious panleucopenia of cats.
  4. The certificate should be completed in Latvian or in any of the further mentioned languages: English, Russian.
  5. If animal is accompanied by its owner or a person authorised by the owner, then an international animal passport can serve as a document certifying animal health. In such cases veterinary certificate is not needed.
